It is with great excitement that I share that Athena AHEPA is in class with her warrior and will be graduating on Thursday, February 21st at 5:00pm.

Athena AHEPA: Athena is all good to go to be paired with her warrior. She's been frisky in the cold for the past week or so, but she is still doing great with all her behaviors.
She's always been highly confident and not much shakes her in public. I am always impressed with her ability to disengage from high level distractions we see in public especially things like other dogs or food left on the ground.
From now until she is paired we will be working on impulse control and redirecting excess energy into her obedience as opposed to becoming overly playful

This is Athena-AHEPA. Athena was found as a stray and was very pregnant.
After she gave birth and weened her puppies, we rescued her from Camden Humane Society.
Athena was trained and graduated in January, 2019. "Athena truly has my six. She has helped me integrate back into my community." – Athena's Warrior

Happy New Year! I wanted to give you an update on Camp K9 and also an update on Athena AHEPA ( I just love this girl.)
It's official - we're opening in Texas! Last week, the City Council of San Antonio voted to give us land to open a canine center to procure and hold rescue dogs there. Then, we'll bring them to our Florida campuses for training. This center is made possible by a very generous grant investment from Petco Foundation. Thank you to everyone who supports this initiative! There's a long road of work ahead of us in the Lone Star State, but we're ready!
Athena is a superstar. She maintains composure in all environments, at most she is curious and wants to investigate her surroundings. Even then she is highly responsive to her leave it commands as well as her name. Because she is so far along we are now doing sessions on just her flat collar and she is learning to respond without the need for a higher level of correction. Aside from that our only real issue to work on is becoming more comfortable with breaking on leash. She is able to do it but pooping takes her some time to get settled in. She knows all of her commands to some extent and I'm confident that she is ready to go to class whenever she is needed.

All the best!

Carrie Bennett | Associate Director of Development, K9s For Warriors
