LOUIE AHEPA

LOUIE AHEPA

Judith Zucker, 10/10/2019

I am making this donation in honor and in memory
of my husband Louie Zucker.

Lou was a son, brother, cousin, uncle, husband, father, papa and my best friend.
He was a great provider and family man. When he became a father there was such joy in his heart and nothing came before the kids.
We were married 33 years when he passed.
Lou enjoyed football. Even though he was a diehard Giants fan. Many days yelling at the TV.
He was extremely handy around the house which was unusual since he grew up in a NY apartment with his parents and two siblings.
But Lou was willing to try to fix things and then if need be call someone. But we never had to. Things seem to come naturally to him.
There were many times when he couched sports for our children and ran out of meetings in the office to be home in time.
They were his priority. He'd run into the house, drop his stuff, change and out the door with child trying to keep up behind him. Not wanting to be late for a practice or a game.
Lou had a strong commitment and love of Judaism. Being an active member of our congregation was a big part of who he was.
He served as ritual chair for several years working closely with the Rabbi trying to make a difference. Helping the brotherhood out as much as possible and becoming man of the year.

Lou is still spoken about amongst his colleagues in the US as well as Europe and Japan as someone who really stepped up and found solutions to difficult chemical engineering issues at the plant.
He was very modest about his knowledge. Lou was a very dedicated worker and took pride in everything he set out to do.

My dearest husband was the bravest man I ever knew. When diagnosed with a glioblastoma, brain cancer, he asked the surgeon "how long do I have".
I asked him why he would want to know that. He replied, "someone has to pull out the curve".
This is a terminal disease and the news was 14 months, he fought for 19. Surgeries, treatment, drugs and Lou never complained.
We were expecting our first grandchild then and with his determination and courage he got to meet her.

Even now my best friend is with me giving me the courage and strength to get up every day and live life as full as it can be without him.
To be there for our children and grandchildren in the way I know he would want me to be.

I know Lou would want to be part of this amazing effort
