Mina AHEPA 2019
Funds Raised by The American Legion Hellenic Post 129, located in Minneapolis, is the first and oldest Greek-American post in the country.
It's members have served in armed conflicts beginning with WWI and including WWII, Korea, Vietnam, the two Gulf Wars, and Afghanistan.
We continue to serve our community today consistent with the ideals of the American Legion,
which coincidentally are not that far apart from those of the AHEPA witness the fact that most of our post members are also AHEPANS.
We chose two names to submit to you for our service dog, one for a male dog and one for a female dog
because we did not know which gender we would have. We chose Zeus for the male and Mina for the female.
Zeus was chosen first and foremost because it is a Greek-based name but also because of who he was in mythology.
Zeus was regarded as the sender of thunder and lightning, rain, and winds, and his traditional weapon was the thunderbolt.
He was called the father (i.e., the ruler and protector) of both gods and men.
Mina was chosen by a vet's granddaughter to honor him for his service. Mina was the nickname for her grandmother.
